Rent reporting

At Zable, we're here to help you break the cycle of making monthly rent payments without reaping the rewards.

  1. Rent reporting could help you boost your credit score, similar to making mortgage repayments.

  2. Available as part of a Zable membership - join for £3 per month.

  3. Set up takes just a few minutes.

What is rent reporting?

Unlike monthly mortgage repayments, rental payments don't appear on a credit report, trapping renters in a negative cycle of being unable to secure competitive mortgage offers. However, rent reporting is a feature where rental payments are recorded and reported to credit reporting agencies.

Demonstrating you can pay your rent on time with rent reporting can help to build your credit score, making it easier to get loans, mortgages or other forms of credit in the future.

How can I report my rent payments with Zable?

Rent reporting is a benefit of Zable memberships. It's available with both an Essentials membership (£3 per month) and a Premium membership (£10 a month). Read more about our memberships.

To start rent reporting, simply join a membership from the Zable app, then set up rent reporting from your membership hub or the Credit Score tab. It takes just a few minutes to set up: confirm your address, enter your rent details, link the bank account you pay rent from, and select your rent payment.

Your rent payments are then reported directly to Equifax.

Having rent repayments as part of your credit history can help to diversify your credit portfolio. This will demonstrate your ability to manage a variety of credit types beyond the likes of credit cards or personal loans.

Apply for a mortgage or loan

With a higher credit score from rent reporting, you're likely to be looked at more favourably by lenders for a future loan such as a mortgage by proving you can consistently make payments on time.

Rent reporting FAQs

Can I create my own rental history report?

You won't be able to report your rent payments to credit bureaus yourself, but that's where we come in. We'll streamline the process with our rent reporting service which will automatically track and verify your rent payments and pass on this data directly on your behalf.

How long does it take for rent reporting to improve my credit score?

The time it takes for rent reporting to positively impact your credit score can vary depending on several factors, such as your current credit score. Typically, you can expect to see improvements in around 3 to 12 months, if you consistently report your rent payments.

Can late or missed rental payments harm my credit report?

No. Because we're not the company collecting your rent, we can only confirm the payments we can see - we don't report missed payments. If we can't find a payment, that month simply isn't included.

Does my landlord need to be involved?

Your landlord isn't involved and won't be contacted. Once you opt in to rent reporting, you'll link your bank account via Open Banking and confirm a few details about your tenancy, like your rent amount and payment date. We then detect your rent payment automatically each month from your bank data and report it to Equifax.

Can I report rent payments from previous rentals to build my credit score?

Unfortunately, you'll only be able to use rent reporting services to track current and future rent payments.
