Using tools like a flexible credit card can help manage break expenses responsibly, spread costs where appropriate, and keep autumn staycation plans on track without compromising on experience."

By matching affordable accommodation with destinations that feature free or low-cost sights, holidaymakers can enjoy a memorable autumn break that fits comfortably within their budget.
Methodology
Zable analysed a seedlist of 33 UK staycation destinations (comprising towns and cities) to determine the best-value options for an autumn break. Destinations were evaluated across five primary categories:
Accommodation costs: Average nightly hotel rate collected per location. Prices taken from Booking.com across 17th - 18th October.
Attraction pricing: Standard adult entry fee for each destination's most popular local attraction according to TripAdvisor.
Attraction quality: Percentage of total attractions in each destination rated 4 stars and above on TripAdvisor.
Popularity: Total number of Instagram posts recorded under primary location hashtags. Some destinations on the seed list share their name with other places or things worldwide (e.g. Stamford, Bakewell, Ludlow), so search terms combined the destination name, its city or region, and "UK" to return results that were accurate in both volume and relevance; the most logical hashtag based on this method was used.
Weather: Average autumn rainfall recorded per destination in mm across September, October and November.
Pub roast dinner pricing: Average cost of a classic beef roast dinner on a Sunday across five local pubs per location were taken. Where possible, pubs were chosen within 2 miles of the destination centre. In smaller or more rural destinations, too few pubs within 2 miles publish a Sunday roast beef price, so the nearest suitable pubs further out were used. Menus can change weekly, so prices reflect the menus available at the time of checking (September 2026).
Data collected in September 2026.
